Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh organised a consultation meeting in Rangpur on Saturday, 4 June 2022 in Begum Rokeya Auditorium, RDRS, Rangpur. This is the first in a series of discussions and will be followed by consultations in Khulna and Tangail.

বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে হিন্দু সম্প্রদায়ের সবচেয়ে বড় ধর্মীয় উৎসব দুর্গাপূজাকে কেন্দ্র করে যেসব সহিংসতার ঘটনা ঘটেছে তার প্রতিক্রিয়ায় দেশের নাগরিক সমাজ তীব্র ক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করেছে। নাগরিক সমাজ মনে করে সাম্প্রদায়িক সহিংসতা রোধে রাষ্ট্রের আরো কার্যকরি ভূমিকা রাখা উচিৎ ছিল।
People are more interested in resolving petty disputes at the local level due to delays, harassment, and money spending in court cases. Conciliation of Dispute (Municipal areas) Board Act, 2004 is more often used by peoples who want to settle petty disputes and not seek help from court to save money and reduce harassment.
আদালতে মামলা নিষ্পত্তিতে দীর্ঘসূত্রিতা, হয়রানি ও অর্থ ব্যয়ের কারণে মানুষ ক্ষুদ্র ক্ষুদ্র বিরোধ স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে সমাধানে বেশী আগ্রহী। ইউনিয়ন পর্যায়ে জনগনের জন্য এ ধরনের বিরোধ মীমাংসার জন্য রয়েছে গ্রাম আদালত। পৌরসভা পর্যায়ে রয়েছে বিরোধ মীমাংসা বোর্ড (পৌর এলাকা) আইন ২০০৪।
Voluntary National Review (VNR) is not just a report but a process. Five years of VNRs have been beneficial in view of meaningfully engaging stakeholders, providing important accountability and communication tools, monitoring Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) implementation while identifying gaps and integrating SDGs into national development plans.
Private sector’s activities targeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) needs to be well structured and enhanced. Moreover, their work is not very well documented. They should have a targeted plan of action for achieving different targets of SDGs.
