In view of media’s prevalent role in achieving overall development of Bangladesh, BRAC organised a day long sharing event titled Sustainable Development Goals and Future on 1 February, 2017 at La Vinci Hotel, Dhaka to give an overview of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their significance in national development plans to the media gatekeepers.
Professor Abdul Bayes, Director, Research & Evaluation Division, BRAC made a presentation to orient the participants with the 17 SDGs and 179 targets and their background, objectives and integration to Bangladesh’s 7th five year plan and impact on the emerging national development agendas. Professor Bayes gave priority on economic inequality, urbanisation, impact of climate change, quality education, food security, nutrition etc. key issues in context of Bangladesh during this session. He also highlighted on the importance of informed and effective journalism to engage GO and NGO efforts to attain these SDGs.
21 journalists from different media houses took part in this event. Mr Asif Saleh, Senior Director, Strategy, Communication and Empowerment, BRAC and Mr KAM Morshed, Director, Advocacy for Social Change, Technology and Partnership Strengthening Unit, BRAC were also in attendance and participated during the open floor discussion.
