Gonoshasthaya Kendra

After Independence of Bangladesh, the Field Hospital (in Tripura, India) was transferred to 132 Eshkaton, Dhaka. From there on April 27, 1972 was moved to Savar 40 Km north of the capital Dhaka, known as Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK).

GK started with two visions, that,

  1. “The fate of the poor decides fate of the country”
  2. “The development of the country depends on development of women, especially rural women”

Hence, poor and disadvantaged women and children are at the heart of the organization- GK. Empowerment is not merely an ‘issue’ related to women. It is an issue of development of our society as a whole. If family is considered as a single unit of society, the welfare of that unit and its members – the men, the children and the aged – depends much on the women of that family. That is the source of power for women.
