In the World Economic Forum’s 2021 Global Gender Gap Report. Bangladesh’s score was 0.719, making it one of the top countries in the region in terms of success in closing the gender gap. The country was also ranked number seven in view of the political empowerment sub-component of the index. Indeed, Bangladesh holds the distinction of being the only country where more women have held the position of head of government than men, considering the past 50 years.

The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on the decades of progress achieved by countries on strengthening health and food systems and improving economic conditions of the population. While income losses and high inflation meant less affordability of household’s food and nutrition necessities, supply disruptions caused by movement restrictions prevented the uptake of essential health services.

আদালতে মামলা নিষ্পত্তিতে দীর্ঘসূত্রতা, হয়রানি ও অর্থ ব্যয়ের কারণে মানুষ ক্ষুদ্র ক্ষুদ্র বিরোধ স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে সমাধানে বেশী আগ্রহী। ইউনিয়ন পর্যায়ে জনগনের জন্য এ ধরনের বিরোধ মীমাংসার জন্য আছে গ্রাম আদালত। পৌরসভা পর্যায়ে আছে বিরোধ মীমাংসা বোর্ড (পৌর এলাকা) আইন ২০০৪।

দেশের প্রান্তিক জনগোষ্ঠী বিশেষ করে নারী, আদিবাসী ও ধর্মীয় সংখ্যালঘু সম্প্রদায় প্রতিনিয়ত ভূমি-বঞ্চনা, নিরাপত্তাহীনতা ও মানবাধিকার লঙ্ঘনের শিকার হচ্ছেন। তিনফসলি কৃষিজমি অধিগ্রহণ না করার সরকারি নির্দেশনা থাকা সত্ত্বেও শিল্পখাতকে গুরুত্ব দিয়ে বিশেষ অর্থনৈতিক অঞ্চল ও পর্যটনকেন্দ্র গড়ে তোলার লক্ষ্যে এ ধরনের কৃষিজমি অধিগ্রহণ করা হচ্ছে।
