Ovibashi Karmi Unnayan Program (OKUP)
OKUP (Ovibashi Karmi Unnayan Program) is a community-based migrant workers’ organization in Bangladesh, founded in 2004 as a platform for returnee migrant workers and registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau in 2008. Operating on principles of human rights, gender justice, child protection, and non-discrimination, it envisions an enabling environment for migrant workers across borders regardless of gender and legal status. The organization promotes informed migration by choice while working to end labour trafficking, forced labour, and slavery. Its priorities include legal migration pathways, ethical recruitment, access to services and justice, climate migration, and sustainable reintegration. OKUP provides demand-driven interventions across migration stages, including pre-departure awareness, direct assistance, repatriation, health support, and economic reintegration. It has conducted over 20 action-oriented research studies and engages in advocacy at national, regional, and global levels. Operating in 20 upazilas across 12 districts, OKUP partners with organizations like the ILO, EU, USAID, and regional networks including Migrant Forum in Asia and GAATW.
