Dushtha Shasthya Kendra (DSK)

DSK was initially organised to address health care needs of the slum-dwellers in Dhaka. Over the years, based on experiences, DSK has diversified its activities. It has already completed its journey of twenty-fifth year and has entered into its 26th year of its existence. DSK is committed to address various social and economic problems of the economically depressed and vulnerable groups in general, of which women constitute a specific category.

DSK formally started its work in 1989; informally main core group started working since mid-eighties. The main aim was to develop a health delivery system that in long run would be self-sustainable.

In this process, DSK gradually was exposed to various dimensions of development paradigm, continuously tried different design, adapted its policies and programs to address “Development

Question”, and eventually has evolved in its present form.

DSK aims at building strong community based organisation, which would eventually be able to plan, prioritise and implement its development programs through mobilisation of its own resources or resources of the government and society upon which they have a legitimate claim.
