Coalition for the Urban Poor (CUP)

CUP is a networking advocacy organization of near about 80s national and international NGOs those are working for urban poor and disadvantage population. Coalition for the Urban Poor (CUP) was formed in 1989 and was registered in 18 April 2000 from the NGO Affairs Bureau of Bangladesh under the Prime ministers’ office, People republic of Bangladesh. CUP has been working the protecting the rights of the displaced peoples in all cities over 35 year in Bangladesh. The main advocacy issues of CUP is eviction prevention, housing rights, protection and promotion of human rights, democracy and good governance, environmental rights, public health, basic service rights including access to education, health, WASH rights and social safety net services of urban poor with the priority of  women, children, adolescents girls, PWD and youth. CUP has established 520 strong slum CBO networks called BOSC (Bostibasir odhikar surokkha committee) all over cities of Bangladesh which has more than 40,000 organized slum leaders. Except this, CUP also organized more than 15,000 CBO leaders of extreme urban poor (pavement dwellers) and 550 network leaders who are working as change makers in their community for establishing their rights. Except these   CUP also organize women Home Based workers more than 1000 leaders are working with CUP for establish theirs rights and prevention of violence.

A productive, just, secured and environmentally sound urban society where the urban poor enjoys equal rights and access to civic services to live with dignity.

Mission of CUP
Collectively work elevating engagements of the poor people living in city corporations, municipalities and the growth centers in access, coordination and management of the entitled civic services and designing sustainable solutions to their concerns
