BRAC

Established by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed in 1972 after the independence of Bangladesh, BRAC, at present, is the largest non-governmental development organisation in the world, measured by the number of employees and the number of people it has helped. BRAC envisions a world free from all forms of exploitation and discrimination where everyone has the opportunity to realise their potential.  The mission of BRAC is to empower people and communities in situations of poverty, illiteracy, disease and social injustice. Our interventions aim to achieve large scale, positive changes through economic and social programmes that enable men and women to realise their potential.

BRAC believes that poverty is a system and its underlying causes are manifold and interlinked. In order for the poor to come out of poverty, they must have the tools to fight it across all fronts. BRAC, therefore, developed support services in the areas of human rights and social empowermenteducation and healtheconomic empowerment and enterprise developmentlivelihood trainingenvironmental sustainability and disaster preparedness. BRAC also operates social enterprises that are strategically connected to the development programmes. Gender equality, respect for the environment and inclusivity are themes crosscutting all of BRAC activities.
