Action for Social Development (ASD)
Action for Social Development (ASD), based in Dhaka, was established as an NGO in the year 1988. ASD envisions a society where all strata of people irrespective of their ethnic and cultural affiliation will live an honoured and peaceful life enjoying their constitutional, democratic and human rights. ASD’s mission is to facilitate the poor creating solidarity among themselves, building their capacity, establishing their linkage with resources and improving their bargaining position. In its life-span of nearly 30 years ASD has gathered experience in implementing large projects on food security and livelihood like SHOUHARDO.
For more than a decade, it has been actively engaged in different initiatives for the elimination of child labour and realization of child rights and is a member of BSAF. ASD is unique in its experience of working in hard to reach haor areas for more than 25 years in recognition of which it received BEACONS AWARD. ASD has so far implemented 69 development projects on different development themes of which 27 projects were exclusively on emergency response and disaster mitigation. ASD is the secretariat of an Emergency Cooperation Network (ECnet) of 10 partner NGOs. ASD is also a member of Network of Climate Change in Bangladesh (NCC, B).
