Chilmari 99.2 FM has won the 2017’s Family Planning Media Award

Community Radio Chilmari 99.2 FM northern part of Bangladesh has won the 2017’s Family Planning Media Award by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Community Radio Chilmari   received the award for outstanding contribution to raising awareness on family planning and population issues through Community Broadcasting!

Community Radio Chilmari 99.2 has been awarded Family Planning Media Award 2016-17 in electronic media Radio Category in a nation-wide competition organized by Directorate of Family Planning of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under the support of UNFPA. Community Radio Chilmari 99.2 took part in the competition with their program name jago nari magazine program in line with women empowerment in line with

Good Health and Well –Being of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-3).

The awardee –Community Radio Chilmari 99.2 will receive the award in a program scheduled to be organized at Osmani Memorial Auditorium at Dhaka, on the occasion of observing the World Population Day on July 11, 2017.The awardee will receive a crest, certificate and a cheque of money as prize amount.

Mr. Mohammed Nasim, MP honorable Minister, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will attend as Chief Guest   and Mr. Zahid Maleaque, MP State Minister of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in the awarding ceremony.

Community Radio Chilmari 99.2 has been started from Chilmary, Kurigram district of Northern part of Bangladesh initiated by RDRS Bangladesh from 2011. RDRS is established in 1972 to assist with relief and rehabilitation of greater Rangpur-Dinajpur region immediately following the War of Independence of Bangladesh in 1971, the RDRS program evolved into a sectoral then comprehensive effort.RDRS became a national development organization in 1997.

There are 26 youth and youth women working with community Radio Chilmari 99.2 and now broadcasting 5 hours program per day. The station covers around 4 lac 80 thousands listeners of 6 Upazila in Kurigram and Gaibandha district.

Bangladesh NGOs Network for radio and Communication (BNNRC) have been struggling for the last 18 years to open up the community media (including Community Radio, Community Television and Community film) and giving focus on its vital role as voices of the voiceless people

The reality of today is that the bondage between the community people and local-level community radio stations are getting strengthened day-by-day. Community Radio has now become their part of life. Community Radio becomes the instrument for the livelihood battle of the rural people.

Now 17 Community Radio Stations are on-air in the country, aiming to ensure empowerment and right to information for the rural community. They are broadcasting altogether 135 hours program per day on information, education, local entertainment and development motivation activities. Around 1000 Youth Women & Youth are now working with those Stations throughout the country as rural broadcasters. Another 15 community radio will start community broadcasting by December 2017.
