Steps Towards Development (Steps)

Steps, established in 1993, is a non-governmental organisation working for the promotion and protection of human rights, gender equality and good governance. Steps strive to create a better society through eliminating all discriminations between women and men that exist in policy, law, institution, society and culture. Its two decades of persistent efforts to strengthen the women’s rights movement has earned the recognition as a leading gender equality and rights-based organisation in Bangladesh. Today, Steps’ outreach expands across 19 district-based local networks covering more than 122 local NGOs in 55 sub-districts, 255 union/wards and 500 secondary schools in Bangladesh.

It has allied with various mainstream human rights organisations as well as international human rights treaties and conventions like CEDAW, UPR, and Beijing PFA. In that way, Steps gradually stepped one step farther to work on other gender equality and human rights issues like rights of sexual and gender minorities, people with disability, marginalised communities etc. It involved with various campaign and advocacy initiatives along with others, which led to a strong linkage with various govt. and other agencies to achieve national target including Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).
